Player Spotlight: Eno Benjamin

Player Spotlight:  Eno Benjamin

After watching Arizona State's standout running back, Eno Benjamin, I was in awe of how great his vision, patience, and footwork were throughout his 2018 season.  The 5'10", 210 pound back is a load to take down when carrying the ball.  This past season, he set school records for carries and yards (300 carries, 1,642 yards) on his way to an unanimous All-American selection season.

Benjamin registered an outstanding 85.3 rushing BattleStat Number (BSN).  His explosive play (XP) rate per carry was 10%.  Benjamin's XP rate bested Matt Brieda's 6.5%, which was the highest of any NFL running back in the league in 2018.  He also took very good care of the football, only registering 1 lost fumble the entire season.

For as good of a runner Benjamin was in 2018, I was most surprised by his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.  He recorded an 81.4% catch rate, which would have only been surpassed by 4 NFL running backs in the 2018 season.  Compared to eligible NFL running backs, Benjamin's receiving BSN of 57.6 would have ranked 2nd in 2018, only behind Kareem Hunt.

Benjamin is a true all-around 3-down running back.  He runs extremely well between and outside the tackles.   He is also a very dependable receiver out of the backfield.  My personal NFL comparisons for Benjamin are Kareem Hunt (BSN-rush:  58.7 BSN-rec: 63.4) and Melvin Gordon (BSN-rush:  64.8 BSN-rec: 42.1).  He might not have elite speed; however, he makes up for it in excellent vision and patience.
